Introduction Dragon Bridge began construction on July 19, 2009, and after nearly 4 years of building, it was completed and put into use on March 29, 2013. With a length of 666.5 meters, a weight of nearly 9,000 tons, 6 lanes, 5 spans, and two pedestrian walkways, the total investment amounted to VND 1,739 billion. Dragon Bridge spans the Han River in a highly strategic location, connecting Da Nang Airport with the beautiful beach. With its unique architecture inspired by the powerful Ly Dynasty dragon reaching out to the sea, the bridge has become an important highlight and the city’s architectural symbol. Its distinctive feature is the steel girder structure modeled as a dragon flying across the Han River toward the sea. This is considered an unprecedented design in the world in terms of load-bearing structure, combining steel girders, steel arches, and concrete girders. Fire and water spraying capability – Fire sprayingAccording to the design, the dragon on the bridge can breathe fire for two minutes, followed by three minutes of water spraying, making the bridge an impressive, unique, and attractive highlight in Da Nang City. – Water sprayingEach spray session (3 minutes) requires 20m3 of water and 40kWh of electricity. The Dragon does not spray a solid stream of water, but rather a powerful and beautiful mist-like jet, reflecting Da Nang’s aspiration to reach farther. To do this, the bridge is equipped with a 20-cubic-meter water tank and 325 cubic meters of compressed air, creating tens of thousands of cubic meters of mist and water spray with a flow rate of 1,944 l/s. Dragon Bridge is located on Nguyen Van Linh Street, in the center of Da Nang, making it very convenient to visit while strolling around the city or traveling between the airport and the beach. Not only a transportation structure, the bridge also offers a beautiful viewing spot over the Han River, especially when the city lights up at night.
